Zoom help
Classes, Dhamma study groups and online retreats run on Zoom. This page shows how to install it, join a meeting and use the buttons you need.
1. Install Zoom
It is free. You do not need a Zoom account to join.
2. Set your name before joining
- Most classes do not let you rename yourself after you join. The meeting is public, so this keeps everyone safe.
- Type your correct name in the name box on Zoom's join screen.
- For retreats, type your yogi number before your name.
- Joined with the wrong name? Leave the meeting and join again with the right one.
3. Join a class
- Tap Join on Zoom on the class card at class time.
- Or open Zoom, tap Join, and type the meeting ID.
- Check your name is correct. You usually cannot change it after joining.
- Type the passcode if asked: metta.
- Wait to be admitted, then choose audio.
4. Microphone and camera
- Stay muted while the Sayadaw speaks.
- Tap Unmute to speak, Mute when done.
- Start Video or Stop Video turns your camera on or off.
- On a phone, tap the screen if the buttons are hidden.
5. Raise your hand
- Phone or tablet: tap the screen, then More, then Raise Hand.
- Computer: choose Reactions, then Raise Hand.
- Lower your hand the same way when you finish.
6. Breakout rooms
In online retreats the host may invite you to a breakout room to ask the Sayadaw a personal question.
- When the invitation appears, choose Join.
- Choose Leave Room to return to the main meeting.
